LandOfStories was at Lavello (PZ) to visit the “Bosco delle Rose”, the “wood of roses”, the farm where Liliana Iacoviello takes care of the orchard garden.
“I would like to become the “out door” welcoming place in the countryside of Lavello”, says Liliana. Her strong relation with the tradition and the family farm led her to devote her life first to create an organic farm and then to develop the orchard garden where you can find antique roses from all over Europe.
The company covers 18 hectares of which about the half is dedicated to cereal cultivation, while the remaining part is devoted to the design of the orchard garden, which is main object of Liliana’s passion and energy.
Plums, cherries, apricots, pears and apples from native hedgerow are grown alongside beautiful rose gardens of old varieties in terraces covered with wood.
Liliana is also dedicated to the production of jams and in the future plans of the company she is going to open a laboratory for jams and a petting zoo to arrange cultural events and workshops with schools.
Liliana’s passion for nature and her family, the desire to experience new activities and to innovate have enabled the local population to enjoy the forest of roses as it was once upon a time, as a place of pilgrimage from the countryside to the religious complex of Our Lady of the Forest of the thirteenth century.
In the company premises business there are also two historic farms – Finocchiaro and Iannuzzo – that testify the tradition and agricultural vocation of the town of Lavello.
Thought for walks and picnics on Sundays, the Forest of roses this year hosted the Slow Food Day organized by the “Conduct of Vulture”, together with numerous other activities that fulfil the agenda of Liliana, which is supported in all her new adventures by her family.
